Director's Updates

8/18/2020

Welcome and welcome back, RMDS families!

I want to officially welcome all of you to the 2020-2021 School Year! We had a wonderful first day of school! There was a lot of positive energy as teachers connected with their students remotely this morning.

This afternoon, we began our assessment week. A friendly reminder, your child is required to wear a face mask entering the school building.  All students will be entering the school building from the front door to be screened prior entering the RMDS building. Please have your child bring their technology device (laptop) also.

Please remember that if your child is sick, they should not be at school. Students need to be fever free for 24 hours, without fever-reducing medication, before returning to school after any illness. Please refer to the health guidelines outlined  on CDPHE webpage to determine when to keep your child at home.

Our team continues to monitor the health advisories and guidance issued by Jefferson County Public Health and Colorado Department of Public Health. We want to remind our students, staff and families to continue to be mindful of preventive measures that can be taken.

Hello RMDS Community,

As you may be aware, 14 metro area school districts took similar action to suspend in-person instruction for the remainder of this school year to best protect students, staff and the community.

This means the RMDS building will be closed for the rest of this year. RMDS will continue our path delivering eLearning for students and remote work for staff for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.

We know that this may create many questions including RMDS’s plan for all of the end of year events, closing the classrooms and construction plans. We are working to create a solid plan and will communicate with you all as soon as possible. We appreciate your ongoing support, trust, and patience as we work through these challenging issues and uncertain times as a community.
Stay safe and healthy!

Hello RMDS families,

Thank you all for your support in the past few days, as your child/children navigate through the new world of  eLearning. Truly inspiring to see how our community comes together to ensure students continue to learn during this unexpected public health crisis.

Rocky Mountain Deaf School  supports Governor Jared Polis’ effort to mitigate the spread of the Covid-19 virus in Colorado. Today, the governor ordered that all public, charter and private schools across the state suspend in-person learning from March 23rd to April 17th.

This means RMDS will continue the eLearning until April 17th with a one-week hiatus for the spring break scheduled for March 23rd to 27th. As of now, the students are expected to return to the building on the 20th of April. We will continue to monitor this situation closely and will communicate updates regarding any changes with you immediately.

Please do check RMDS’s web page, as there is updated information on districts/locations that provide Grab & Go food services to students. Any students can receive breakfast and lunch.
I am aware there is still a lot of uncertainty for the weeks ahead.  And, I appreciate your continuous support as we navigate this new reality.

Stay safe and healthy!

RMDSly yours,
Amy J Novotny, Director

The novel coronavirus, known as COVID-19, continues to impact communities locally and globally. Due to this unprecedented public situation, we implemented our eLearning plan last week. We strongly believe it is essential for our students to maintain their skills and continue to learn new things. I want to thank you for sharing your questions, thoughts and concerns with us. You will be receiving communication from your child’s teacher by tomorrow, March 17th.

A friendly reminder, eLearning will begin on Wednesday, March 18th. It is recommended that families continue to follow structured schedules including eating, sleeping and waking up, throughout this situation.

Rocky Mountain Deaf School will be providing updates as necessary on our website; updates will be including and limited to information regarding free meals in your area, and ASL videos regarding COVID-19.

This is an unwelcome and unwanted stability disruption, however I am asking you to view this as an opportunity for us to work together to do the best that we can for your child/children.

Please continue to look for updated communication in the hours and days to come--and be kind to each other.

RMDSly yours,
Amy J Novotny, Director
